About me
This site should serve to present and catalog my reading exploits, some thoughts and opinions, and, be I so bold as to hope---as Bane puts it in scene 90 of Christopher and Jonathan Nolan's screenplay for The Dark Knight Rises
:
Hope. Every man who has rotted here over the centuries has looked up to the light and imagined climbing to freedom. So simple. So easy. And, like shipwrecked men turning to sea water from uncontrollable thirst, many have died trying. I learned that there can be no true despair without hope.
connect me to, with somebody. *sigh* But, it is all so so tiresome. Nobody exerts themself, nobody wills to. What Ian Brady says of hoi polloi in The Gates of Janus
, I agree with, I'd thought it myself. Yet he had more successful relationships.
I used to listen to and through music obsessively. 80–95% of everything I'd listened to from 2012 to 2021 was logged at/with last.fm: about 2.5e5 scrobbles, to use the its term, achieved natty, of course. I used to be on the cutting edge of the a few scenes: djent, technical deathcore, technical progressive metal, artsy-fartsy shred and guitar wankery. And I was seriously getting into jazz past few years, familiarizing myself, like I'd done with rock/metal, with the major and minor developments, and genre creators and expanders, or at least I'd like to have thought so. Both were processes, both were abruptly cut short. I also used to compose, used to enjoy composing, and listening too.
I like highly technical, (needlessly) intricate, and or brutal music. Broadly: metal, jazz, and classical; more narrowly: technical deathcore, bebop, baroque. I like abstract, 'modern' shit like: Brian Ferneyhough, Kaikhosru Shapurji Sorabji, Cecil Taylor, Milton Babbitt, Jacob Collier, Gonzalo Rubalcaba, and many more lesser known active artists, scrounged up and around from Bandcamp. I have, or at least had, crystallized, acrid opinions on most, if not all, subgenres of the three aforementioned, and I readily and avariciously consoomed anything and everything, to form and opinion, broaden musical horizons. Some day... Some day I may get back to music fully.
I also have interests in a few areas of physics, chemistry, and mathematics, and in software engineering. Music, literature, knowledge/learning one could say are my passions. I can't well describe myself or talk about myself in general, so I won't any further. I don't define or constrain myself, who I am through my relation to others, objects, ideas, etc. I just am. If you don't get me, let me know me, if not ???
